It appears that Seth Rollins may have been scheduled to lose the Intercontinental Championship a little earlier in the year perhaps.

WrestleVotes on Twitter revealed that the original plan for turning Dean Ambrose heel was to have him cost Seth Rollins the Intercontinental Championship against up-and-coming Superstar Elias. Elias would have answered Seth Rollins’ open challenge and that’s where Ambrose would have turned and cost his ‘brother’ the Intercontinental Championship.

WrestleVotes suggests that the reason this all didn’t go down is due to the immediate need for change following the Roman Reigns’ announcement of the return of his leukemia. Elias almost immediately turned babyface, and has since been slotted into a top role on the Monday Night Raw brand:

Elias definitely has big things in his future because he gets a lot of praise from the major players throughout the history of the industry. Elias had the segment at WWE Starrcade with Ric Flair, was touted by Mick Foley to be a possible future Universal Champion, and even Stone Cold Steve Austin just named Elias somebody he would like to wrestle for a one-off match. Prior to this, the only other person in that discussion was Brock Lesnar, so that is very high praise. Time will tell what Elias really ends up being remembered for. We’ll just have to wait while we keep on walkin’ beside him.

Has this worked out better for everybody involved? Sound off in the comments.
