MLW released the following announcement revealing that Konnan will be coming out of retirement to face Low Ki for the MLW Heavyweight Championship at the appropriately named “Never Say Never” event in Miami:

KONNAN COMES OUT OF RETIREMENT FOR WORLD TITLE MATCH IN MIAMI HOMECOMING ON DECEMBER 14 AT MLW FUSION TV TAPING
MIAMI – George Foreman did it in 1994. Randy Couture did it in 2007. Now one of the all-time biggest box office stars in Mexico looks to do it in 2018.  The legendary hall of famer Konnan will step in the ring in his hometown of Miami on December 14th and fight for a world championship for the first time since 1997.
Major League Wrestling today announced a No Disqualification World Heavyweight Title Match: Konnan vs. World Heavyweight Champion Low Ki (presented by Salina de la Renta) for Friday night December 14th Zero Hour card at the Miami Scottish Rite Temple. Both December 13 & 14th cards are FUSION TV tapings for beIN SPORTS.
Buy tickets starting at $15 at http://www.MLWTickets.com. For just $20 fans can see both the December 13th (Never Say Never) and December 14th (Zero Hour) shows as part of the holiday combo ticket.
This past Friday on MLW’s national television series MLW: FUSION (watch), Promociones Dorado confronted Konnan as he entered the building with the reigning World Champion challenging the retired lucha legend to a match.  Konnan called Low Ki out for grandstanding stating that the world knows Konnan has been retired for years.  Throughout the night tensions escalated and Konnan ultimately accepted the challenge.
Konnan’s statement on his comeback match for the world championship: “Low Ki you’re younger than me, quicker than me, stronger than me… at this point. But what’s gonna happen when the underdog – and I need to be the underdog and I don’t need anyone telling me I should win because I shouldn’t win but what’s going to happen when I go to my hometown and beat you? What are you going to say then? Because that’s exactly what’s gonna happen.”
Konnan’s three decades in the sport have been prolific.  The first-ever CMLL World Heavyweight Champion, Konnan was a crossover star in Mexico appearing regularly on television and in music videos.  In the early 90s, Konnan co-founded AAA Lucha Libre where he would be a perennial main eventer defeating the likes of Jake “the Snake” Roberts to claim his hair, main eventing the AAA When Worlds Collide pay-per-view, shattering box office records in Mexico and California and becoming a staple in America as a member of the nWo and LAX.  A trailblazer, Konnan became a guiding light for emerging luchadores looking for worldwide stardom including Rey Mysterio, Pentagon Jr., Rey Fenix and countless others.  Konnan has also enjoyed success as a popular podcaster on the MLW Radio Network.  Today, Konnan serves as the consigliore for the World Tag Team Champions Pentagon Jr. & Rey Fenix.
The saga between Konnan and Promociones Dorado started this past summer when Konnan advised Pentagon Jr. and Rey Fenix to distance themselves from Promociones Dorado impresaria Salina de la Renta.  Quickly things escalated into an outright war.
Now all roads lead to Miami where a modern day Cinderella Man story will be written as Konnan fights before his family and friends in a homecoming three decades in the making.  Can the Cuban born luchador defy the odds and father time and dethrone Low Ki?  Or will the undefeated Low Ki add another trophy to his dominant 2018 in MLW?
