More information is now available on Austin Aries’ status as a free agent thanks to the latest issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required). While many suspected that Aries had massive backstage heat on him for the controversial ending to Bound For Glory that saw Aries flip off Don Callis and quickly leave after losing the IMPACT Championship to Johnny Impact. However, that’s not the case.
In fact, Dave Meltzer reports that the company is “very high on him.” If they aren’t mad then that looks like it was a planned angle to make things look real after the beef that Impact and Aries had leading up to the pay-per-view event. Speaking of that, the company was actually upset about the Twitter beef that had Aries calling Impact’s wife Taya Valkyrie “husky.” This isn’t because he crossed a line, as it was designed by Aries and the former John Morrison, but because the two didn’t get the angle okayed beforehand. However, they were able to get TMZ coverage from it, so they changed plans and used their worked-shoot to their advantage.
