Daniel Cormier On Wanting To Slap Brock Lesnar At UFC 230, Comments On His WWE Tryouts

In a lengthy sit down interview with leading MMA journalist Ariel Helwani, UFC dual weight Champion Daniel Cormier revealed that the Beast Incarnate Brock Lesnar – and possibly the next UFC Heavyweight Title challenger – will be cage side this weekend at UFC 230 in Madison Square Garden.

Cormier, who it was determined would defend his UFC Heavyweight Title against Lesnar sometime in early 2019 once the WWE star’s USADA suspension was lifted, also warned that a repeat of his UFC 226 shenanigans where he entered the cage and pushed Cormier, won’t end well for the Beast.

If you recall, Brock Lesnar entered the Octagon after the UFC 226 main event and pushed Cormier, in response to which Cormier’s boxing coach Rosendo Sanchez pushed him.

He [Rosendo Sanchez] told me, when he pushed Lesnar, I had better be behind Lesnar to help him because in that moment, he knew he was about to get his a** kicked.

Brock’s going to be there [at UFC 230] I guess. Brock’s coming to lay claim to [his spot]. But this time I’m not going to let him just push me.

If he comes up there, [motions a slap] right in the face. Slap him. [laughs]

Cormier also addressed the news that broke last week that he would be attending commentary tryouts for the WWE. Cormier, who has been a lifelong wrestling fan, spoke about the opportunity and the possibility of wrestling in the WWE too.

It’s [working with WWE] a big dream. I’m a lucky guy to where I’m experiencing and getting a lot of opportunity. They reached out to me. Right now it’s in the backburner because I have to get through Saturday [UFC 230] but we’ll sew what happens after this weekend.

I’m not talking about me starting this [commentary for the WWE] right now, but to go and see if it works, of course. All these opportunities you can’t put on the backburner for too long. You have to kind of see how everything goes.

However, he was quick to pour cold water on the possibility of him wrestling in the WWE, saying that that wasn’t part of the negotiation.

No, no wrestling. Just kind of doings stuff like that [commentary]. I mean, they’ve got a big deal now with FOX so maybe I’ll do something like a UFC Tonight. I don’t know. I don’t know what it would entail.

I just know that it’s an opportunity.
