The biggest angle in NXT over the last year-and-a-half has been the breakup and rivalry of #DIY, the tag team that consisted of Johnny Gargano and current NXT champion Tommaso Ciampa. The two men were the best of friends who chased their dreams all the way to the NXT Tag Team Championship. In May of last year, Tommaso suffered a severe injury that would put him on the shelf for several months. Knowing this, Tommaso Ciampa made sure to leave a lasting impression by turning his back on Johnny Gargano and leaving him laying. This one action set off a year-and-a-half’s worth of phenomenal storytelling and brutal matches that ultimately broke down the strong will and conviction that Johnny Gargano prided himself on.

Last night on NXT, Johnny was revealed as the man who attacked Aleister Black, seemingly officially turning heel. This puts Johnny and Tommaso on the same moral plane in the eyes of most the NXT Universe and many were waiting on Tommaso to comment on Johnny’s change of heart. Well, the NXT champion took to Twitter to do just that releasing this “official statement:”

May 2017

Two days before Takeover Chicago where DIY would take on AOP in a ladder match for the NXT Tag Team Titles, I suffered a severe ankle sprain.

Within 24 hours the NXT fanbase was prepared to replace me, it’s just a replacement after replacement to tag with Johnny.

My eyes were suddenly open. The NXT fans are weak and fickle. They are pathetic.

Going into Takeover Chicago, Johnny knew better than anyone how I felt in regards to our “fans.” But his eyes were still closed… he was still blind.

That night, after we lost, I looked into Johnny died one last time, and I knew… I knew he wasn’t ready to see the light.

Johnny was still blinded by the fake admiration of the NXT scum.

I never hated Johnny. I hated what he represented.

After last night’s episode of NXT, it is clear, Johnny has finally seen the light.

Johnny Wrestling is dead. But Johnny Gargano has never been more alive.

Tommaso Ciampa would go on to suggest that he and his former friend should rekindle and “Glorious Bomb” Aleister. In a reference to the viral videos that used to post with Bobby Roode. It will be interesting to see if the DIY tag team will be reformed anytime soon with this new change of heart:
