In the summer of 2013, Bryan found himself becoming the most popular superstar on the entire WWE roster. John Cena, the then-WWE Champion handpicked Daniel Bryan as his opponent for SummerSlam. The two would have an intense but brief rivalry the following month, which turned out to be more of a war of words than physicality itself.
The final segment before SummerSlam saw things boil up and get very real. They would go on to have a show-stealer at SummerSlam where Bryan beat Cena clean to become WWE Champion, even if it was just for a few minutes.
