Not many superstars can say that they debuted and made their name off of John Cena, the face of the franchise. However, Kevin Owens is one of the rare few. He was still the NXT Champion on his main roster debut and he answered John Cena’s United States Open Challenge.
He refused to face Cena immediately, choosing to assault him instead. They would have the first match of their trilogy at Elimination Chamber, where Kevin Owens beat John Cena clean. This was another major surprise to fans. While Cena did beat Owens in their next two encounters, effectively ending their rivalry, it was a great way to introduce Owens to the main roster.
