A week removed from the controversial Montreal Screwjob, Vince McMahon’s role on the commentary table would conclude and in an interview with Jim Ross, Vince McMahon revealed that it wasn’t him, referee Earl Hebner or Shawn Michaels that screwed Bret Hart, but that Bret Hart screwed Bret Hart.
He went on to talk about his vision for Bret Hart’s final match in the WWF and how it ultimately ended up playing out. He showed his nasty side that the world had never seen before an introduced the Mr McMahon character. The Attitude Era would kick-start the following year and the rest, as they say, is history.
