CM Punk’s rise to the top in 2011 still remains one of the most fascinating stories in modern-day WWE. He was a man who was never supposed to make it but he used the power of the microphone to take the ball and run with it. His story with John Cena was the perfect one as they were two polar opposites.

No matter how much of a “heel” he was presented as, he became one of the most beloved babyfaces out there and he wasn’t a generic one either. During the early second half of his 434-day WWE Championship reign, he turned heel after attacking The Rock. Following that, he would go on an 8-9 month run where he was the most despicable heel in WWE. Perhaps the most despicable level he reached was during his WrestleMania feud against The Undertaker where Paul Bearer‘s death was used in the storyline.
