5 WWE Superstars Who Had The Most Unexpected Rise To Becoming A World Champion

In WWE, there have been many different world champions across three different lineages. We are, of course, referring to the three main world titles in WWE history – The WWE Championship (1963-), the World Heavyweight Championship (2002-2013) and the Universal Championship (2016-).

The different kinds of talent we’ve seen step up to the plate is quite incredible. There has been the handpicked superstars, chosen to succeed, those who ended up with it due to years and years of dedication and hard work and those who did that, but were never destined to win the title, but went on to defy the odds anyway.

We’re not necessarily talking about underdog champions. Even with the two biggest underdog champions in WWE history – Daniel Bryan and Rey Mysterio -, it wasn’t an unexpected rise to the top. Both had stories going for them that led to the world title, but this list is about those who reached that destination in the most unexpected manner.
