In 2002, Hulk Hogan’s position in WWE wasn’t the same as it was 9 years prior. He was no longer the top star nor the top priority, meaning that the days where he could politick backstage for wins wouldn’t work anymore. Regardless, credit must be given because he probably realized by then that he didn’t need the wins as much as before.
As a result, he put over multiple superstars in the year 2002 and at King of The Ring 2002, Kurt Angle was one of them. It came as a big surprise, but it gave a huge rub to Angle since he made Hogan tap out clean to the ankle lock. He would begin bragging about it on SmackDown, only to be confronted by a young, debuting kid by the name of John Cena.
