#2.) Triple H was originally supposed to win the tournament
In 1996, the young Hunter Hearst Helmsley was on the rise and was all set for a huge push. It was also an interesting period of time because Kevin Nash and Scott Hall were both departing to WCW. This resulted in one final tag team match between the four Kliq Members at an MSG house show, where they broke character at the end, confusing the entire audience and infuriating people backstage.
It was a sacred rule being broken and since Nash and Hall were leaving, nothing could happen to them. Shawn Michaels was the reigning WWF Champion so he was untouchable too. This resulted in Triple H being punished and his push was taken away and given to Steve Austin instead, who benefitted greatly from it.
Triple H did finally get his KOTR win one year later, however, kickstarting an incredible run in his career.
