#2.) vs. Sting – COTC I
To compete with WrestleMania IV, NWA took a chance and put a main event between their biggest star Ric Flair and their fastest-rising star – Sting. Flair felt obligated to do for Sting what Harley Race did for him – make him an even bigger star. The match would end up easily being the best across promotions that day and it ended up going until a 45-minute time-limit draw.
Again, this was a very gutsy move by WCW because they didn’t coronate Sting during this match. However, it made him a huge star and his stock had grown like never before. Their rivalry would come to define WCW over the next decade or so.
