#1.) ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin vs Bret Hart – WrestleMania 13

Apart from just HBK vs The Undertaker at WrestleMania 25, the biggest contender for “greatest WrestleMania match ever” goes to Steve Austin vs Bret Hart in a submission match at WrestleMania 13. It was the culmination of Hart’s frustration after losing the WWF Championship match to Sycho Sid in a steel cage thanks to Austin.

It resulted in a worked-shoot rant by Bret Hart towards Vince McMahon and his match at Austin was a pure grudge match. It was the turning point in Austin’s career as he walked in the heel while Hart was the babyface. However, with all the bitterness, the two went to war and Hart locked in a sharpshooter on Austin.

Austin, refusing to give up, was a bloody mess. His face was covered in red and he was in agonizing pain but simply refused to give up. Fans saw his resilient attitude and the tides began to turn – where they cheered for Austin and booed Hart. It was the greatest double turn ever and shot Austin further into superstardom, even in defeat.
