Steve Austin’s reign on top of WWE may have been very short, but there was no run in WWE history more impactful in that short span of time. Austin represented the perfect superstar to build the company around in the late 1990s as the Monday Night Wars were at its peak. Austin’s first title reign came at WrestleMania XIV when the Royal Rumble winner defeated Shawn Michaels to win his first WWE Championship.
His win would usher in the Attitude Era – a period that many consider the greatest in WWE history. His run on top would see WWE reach new heights in ratings, live attendance and the money they made as a whole. Austin was one of the biggest draws in pro wrestling history.
