#1.) John Cena vs AJ Styles – SummerSlam
John Cena and AJ Styles’ Money in the Bank match could easily have been counted on this list, but we opted not to for the sake of variety. One thing is for sure – they topped it and more at SummerSlam. In Styles’ post-WWE title feud, he welcomed back the returning John Cena by viciously attacking him, with an assist courtesy of The Club.
It led to an incredible heel turn, where Styles used their help to beat Cena the first time. After Cena got a measure of revenge at Battleground (albeit in a six-man tag match with Enzo & Cass), their focus was renewed on each other after the brand split. There was no Club and there was no Enzo & Cass.
It was going to be Styles and Cena one on one and that’s exactly what fans got. They put on a match for the ages, with the crowd going absolutely wild the whole way through. WWE should have considered putting it higher up on the card because no match that night could top what they did. Styles walked out with a clean victory – a stepping stone for his WWE title win just a few weeks later.
