Why this match didn’t main event the show, nobody knows. But the story of Ziggler and Miz was one of the best rivalries of the entire year. Ziggler was a man rejected and one who was constantly falling short, whether it was for the WWE title at SummerSlam or the Intercontinental title at Backlash.
With The Miz refusing to give him another title shot, Ziggler decided to put it all on the line, literally offering to quit WWE for good if he lost the match. The addition of the Spirit Squad made for a good throwback and added more hurdles to Ziggler’s path.
The match itself told an incredible story and Ziggler showed heart like never before. He survived multiple major scares before finally overcoming the odds and winning the Intercontinental title in one of the most feel-good title wins ever.
The pop he received was unreal and it really should have ended the night.
