Daniel Bryan and CM Punk was a dream rivalry in WWE that nobody expected would ever be for the WWE title. Yet, the two former ROH World Champions found themselves in the midst of a rivalry for the biggest prize in the industry. For some weird reason, WWE decided that John Cena vs John Laurinaitis would be a better main event.
This was none more so proven to be a bad idea than when Punk and Bryan stole the show in a 24-minute classic. Their chemistry in the ring was evident and they put on a technical clinic, one that’s been considered the best match of CM Punk’s 434-day WWE Championship reign. It ended in a controversial finish when Bryan’s shoulders were down and he got pinned despite successfully submitting Punk at the same time.
