Randy Savage may only have had one title reign with the Intercontinental Championship – but it was certainly the greatest title reign in the belt’s history. Winning it in dirty fashion from Tito Santana, Savage would prove to be a world-class champion, defending it for over a year in all sorts of ways.
The reign established him as a top dog to watch out for and the most notable moment of his reign was the end of it, when he lost to Ricky Steamboat at WrestleMania 3 in one of the greatest matches of all time. It’s the perfect example of the title being a stepping stone – because Savage would reach main event status and never go down again.
