#5.) Bret HartRic Flair – October 1992

It was late 1992 and WWF was in a very tricky spot. It was in the midst of the steroid scandal and a couple of years before it went to court. The Ultimate Warrior had failed a drug test and had to be released, while Hulk Hogan was transitioning out of the company. While Ric Flair vs Randy Savage is a feud we look back on with a lot of good memories, the truth is that it didn’t really draw as hoped.

However, what made matters worse was that Flair suffered an injury during the time and had to drop the title. Bret Hart wasn’t what looked like the prototype WWF Champion at the time, but he was consistent, reliable and probably the best in-ring worker they had at that point. Moreover, he didn’t look like he was on steroids either, and he was the no-brainer pick to succeed Ric Flair as WWF Champion.

At a Live Event in Saskatoon, Hart would defeat Flair to win his first WWF Championship. This was before the Internet Wrestling Community was a thing, so fans who watched on TV were understandably shocked when Bret Hart was introduced on Superstars as the WWF Champion.
