DDP is the man who essentially single-handedly saved Jake Roberts’ life. However, their relationship and DDP’s gratitude towards Roberts dates back decades. DDP had a very late start to his wrestling career, and he really didn’t get anywhere in the beginning. It was under the tutelage of Jake Roberts that DDP trained and would go on to become the superstar that he did.
Their relationship over wrestling was one of the things that made DDP feel that he owed a lot to Roberts. It took him a long time to “repay” Roberts, but he did in the most incredible way that any human being could ever repay a person.
