For every WWE superstar, being World Champion is a lot more than just holding a gold title belt. It means that you’re representing the company as the top star and you have a lot going on for you. Guerrero took this to heart, and after WrestleMania, when superstars like Kurt Angle got injured, and Brock Lesnar had departed, ratings were dwindling a bit.
Guerrero took the ratings and other factors very personally and believed it to be a sign that he was failing as World Champion. He even requested that the title be taken off him, and went out of his way to put over JBL. There’s no doubt that he was a little too hard on himself, but if anything, it goes to show the passion that he had for the business and just how much he took it to heart. There will never be anyone like him again.
