#2.) Getting the Tokyo Dome main event

If you don’t know the story, here it is. When Tetsuya Naito had won the G1 Climax in 2013, he was all set for a main event against Kazuchika Okada at Wrestle Kingdom 8 for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship. However, the crowd, not believing he was ready for the main event, gave a mild reaction when Okada and Naito had a face-off.

As a result, New Japan let their fans vote for what they wanted to be the Wrestle Kingdom main event. They could choose between Naito and Okada, or the IWGP Intercontinental title match between Shinsuke Nakamura and Hiroshi Tanahashi. They chose the latter, and Naito would long be bitter about losing his main event spot.

It all came full circle and at Wrestle Kingdom 12, Naito finally got his main event match against Okada. Though he was unsuccessful, it was a great moment for Naito as he would finally earn that main event spot. This time, there would be no fan vote.
