Tetsuya Naito might be one of the most underrated wrestlers in the world. In the last few years in New Japan Pro Wrestling, he established himself as a bonafide top star, joining the elite group of superstars such as Kazuchika Okada, Hiroshi Tanahashi, Kenny Omega, and AJ Styles. In fact, since 2011, only Naito and these four superstars have been IWGP Heavyweight Champion. That alone should speak volumes of the prestige of the title.
The New Japan brass always saw potential in Naito. From the get-go, he was pushed, but there was something severely lacking. He had all the tools it took, but he wasn’t able to connect with the crowd the way the other top stars did. He didn’t stand out as a larger than life character, but someone just waiting to break out.
His excursion to Mexico would change his career drastically. He would find a new persona with the Mexican heel faction Los Ingobernables and ended up bringing it to Japan and making an impact like no other. He’s now a bonafide top star and even though he probably won’t come to WWE due to his loyalty to NJPW, we can still fantasize about what could be. Let’s look at five dream opponents for Naito in WWE.
