#1.) Johnny Gargano vs Tommaso Ciampa – NXT Takeover: New Orleans
Not only was this the best match of WrestleMania weekend, but it was probably the best match of the year. It was one of the most anticipated matches, dating back to when Ciampa got injured. It finally happened and they had an Unsanctioned match, with the stipulation that Gargano needed to win to be reinstated to NXT.
From the moment Ciampa walked out, it was nothing but goosebumps. Ciampa received a chorus of boos as his entrance music and soaked it all in as the crowd jeered him in unison. Gargano was the hero and fans would let it be known. What followed was wrestling masterclass, as the two former partners looked like they tried to murder each other. It was all about redemption for Gargano and in one of the most masterful pieces of storytelling in wrestling history, Johnny Wrestling overcame everything and submitted Ciampa with his own knee brace.
The final shot of Gargano standing tall with Ciampa’s knee brace and broken crutch will be remembered forever.
