Can you blame someone for considering this the greatest match of all time? Kenny Omega became the first gaijin (foreigner) to main event Wrestle Kingdom. The stakes were at the highest and the two performers put on a match for the ages. The story was of how Omega outperformed Okada in almost every end and came inches close to becoming IWGP Heavyweight Champion.
It was a match so good that it left fans at ringside in tears. The “six-star” match had high expectations, but it blew all those expectations away and set a whole new standard in NJPW. Okada retained, continuing his title reign, which would go on to become the greatest of the era. It would be another one and a half years before he finally lost the title.
