In the conclusion of Okada’s historic 720-day title reign, he took on his arch-rival Kenny Omega in a 2-out-of-3 falls match. They were even up to that point, with 1 win each and a draw. The much-anticipated rematch took place and in what many consider one of the greatest matches in wrestling history, Omega finally got one over Okada, dethroning him and capturing the coveted IWGP Heavyweight Championship.
It made him only the fifth IWGP Heavyweight Champion since 2011, which speaks volumes of how prestigious the title is.
