It’s very difficult to choose which of Okada’s wars with Tanahashi to put on this list because each and every one of them were incredible in their own way. Each of them told a different story and when fans watch the two together, they know that they’re witnessing something very special.
However, we’re going to choose the Dontaku 2018 match for a specific reason. It was on the tail end of Okada’s historic title reign and he had equaled Hiroshi Tanahashi’s record 11 title defenses in one reign. His next challenger was Hiroshi Tanahashi himself, who didn’t want his record to be broken.
This resulted in a match of epic proportions that saw them continue to one-up their previous encounters. It was dramatic the entire way through and the crowd was wild and emotional. It took Okada every last bit of effort he had to finally defeat his long-time rival.
