#2.) ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin vs Bret Hart – Survivor Series 1996
There’s a reason why Bret Hart wanted to put Steve Austin over. To think that their match at WrestleMania 13 the next year was even better is just staggering. The story of their match at Survivor Series was that Bret Hart had returned to WWE, but things weren’t the same. Austin, being one of the major changes and up-and-comers called out Hart for being weak and it resulted in an incredible rivalry.
Their Survivor Series match was also a WWE title #1 contenders match, so with the stakes even higher, the two had an all-out war. Unlike their bout months later, this match had a well-established face-heel dynamic, with Austin being the sadistic heel. The dramatic finish saw Bret Hart desperately pin Austin, winning the match but knowing well that it wouldn’t be the last time they met.
