#3.) Royal Rumble 1997 – 60,500 people
WWE went to the Alamodome in San Antonio for the second biggest PPV of the year. The major attraction of the PPV wasn’t the Royal Rumble match itself, but Shawn Michaels‘ homecoming. HBK who had just lost the WWF Championship to Psycho Sid a couple of months earlier looked to fight in front of his hometown crowd to try and regain the title.
He did so, to a huge ovation. ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin was the Royal Rumble winner that year. WWE would end up returning to the Alamodome for the Royal Rumble 20 years later, drawing a crowd of 52,000 people.
