Ryan Nemeth is excited to show fans what being a traveling pro wrestler is really about.
Nemeth spoke with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard about the launch of The Nemeth Bros podcast. Ryan and his brother, Nic Nemeth, partnered with PodcastOne for a new project that promises to be a “must listen” show.
The podcast market is already saturated with pro wrestling shows, but this isn’t just going to be another wrestling show. Ryan and Nic are adding a personal touch and plan on providing a modern view of the pro wrestling world, with some surprise guests along the way, too.
Ryan Nemeth on what sets The Nemeth Bros podcast apart
“We have a toe in show business, live-comedy, writing and film. So, what sets us apart — it’s not going to be us reviewing wrestling matches. We are giving our personal take, our stories on the road, stories from doing stand-up shows, and special guests,” Nemeth explained, before offering a tease of their guest for an upcoming episode. “I don’t want to spoil it, but our first guest we have in episode 3 is like, so big and we are so lucky to have him. I’ll give you a hint. He’s one of the most well-known filmmakers in modern pop culture. It’s so sweet we have that kind of stuff going for us.
“So, if you want to hear the gritty actual view of modern wrestling and living and traveling on the road from two brothers who like to laugh more than anything or hear about comedy or have special guests on, it’s going to be so fun,” Nemeth continued, noting his past resistance to doing a show despite Nic’s own insistence. “I’m so fired up about it. It’s a great creative outlet. Early reviews about episode 1 have been very positive. So, I’m really excited.”
‘Share this with the audience’
Nemeth credits PodcastOne for highlighting their unique position as brothers, wrestlers and comedians. Getting an outside view helped the brothers see PodcastOne’s vision, and it became more enticing as they kept coming up with topics for episodes.
“It’s incredible. They have an entire company and network behind it, trying to push it and make this big. We already have our own fanbases. So, I think combining a lot together is a huge perfect storm,” Nemeth explained. “We started traveling together doing shows in Australia, and Puerto Rico, and TNA. And it was all kind of happening at the same time where I thought, ‘Oh yeah, this all is great material for a show.’ Which… When we do our live shows, we do a little bit of that but it’s mostly jokes, and routines, and bits, and stuff. You are going to get the real deal. And that was enticing to me to say, ‘Share this with the audience.’”
Nemeth referenced a “fake doctor” prank he and his brother pulled while they were training in WWE developmental as one example of what to expect. You can put carefully curated content on social media, but The Nemeth Bros aims to share a behind-the-scenes look at the life of a pro wrestler, no matter how crazy or mundane it might be.
“Now you are going to get the embarrassing realities of traveling and wrestling. Being a traveling pro wrestler is one percent of the giant [picture]. Most of it is waiting in line at the airport for the Uber, for the hotel. Wrestle for two seconds, go back to the airport,” Nemeth said. “I am very psyched about it. I have a little notebook, I put all my ideas in now for it.”
Ryan Nemeth comes to TNA
Ryan Nemeth had been signed with All Elite Wrestling for three years, making his final appearance on the November 11, 2023 episode of Ring Of Honor. He later showed up on TNA television in May, which caught some people by surprise.
Although he declined to discuss his AEW contract status, Nemeth shared how the opportunity to work with his brother in TNA came up. Nemeth playfully noted how long it took the wrestling world to pair them together, but it’s been a great experience so far.
“There came an opportunity to do something very cool with Nick and The System, and my dad. TNA pitched having us being part of the PPV match with Nic against Moose, and my dad and I were super happy to be there, front row in Las Vegas,” Ryan Nemeth explained. “One thing leads to another, and a few weeks down the line you see me aligning myself with Matt Hardy. Me and Matt Hardy getting a win over The System leads to me and Nic teaming up, and the dominos keep falling in a really fun direction.
“I’ve been wanting to do something with Nic since I was in NXT,” he added. “It’s taken three different companies for someone to finally go, ‘You know what might be cool? Having these two brothers who are wrestlers be brothers who are wrestlers, together.’ As far as my contract status with AEW, then, now, or at any point, that’s not really something I’m into discussing publicly at this time. Let’s just say I have freedom to work with my brother in TNA, and it’s been awesome.”
Ryan Nemeth on working with Nic in TNA
Part of the appeal of working in TNA was the Nemeths working together. The pair made their tag team debut on the June 13 episode of TNA Impact, following it up with a tag title challenge at Against All Odds.
Nemeth noted the importance of his work having more direction, which TNA assured him was the case. After a few “near miss” opportunities, the Nemeths finally shared the ring (and brought their father along, too).
“TNA has been a thing kind of like the podcast where [I was having different ideas pitched to me]. ‘[Do you] want to do this? Want to do this?’ And me just going, ‘No. Not really. I don’t know. What do you…’” he explained. “I said to somebody at some point during one of those conversations, ‘Hey, I have some of my own PTSD from the old place that I worked, or am working. If the plan is to have me be in six-man tag matches on YouTube that don’t matter, no I’m good. I did that for three years.’ And no offense to people who do that. It was a great place briefly to showcase myself. But, at some point, the lack of direction and organization leaves you wanting more and it makes you weary of signing somewhere else. I was assured that will not be the case.”
What’s next?
Nemeth said the new ideas presented to him sounded great, crediting TNA for finally seeing how he and his brother made a great on-air duo.
“There’s been some near misses and companies not quite understanding how cool it is to have two athletic, funny, engaging, personable wrestlers as a team, or going against each other. And finally after 80 years, TNA was the first one to see the light and say, ‘Hey, these two are fun together.’ That was a great summer. And I look forward to more.”
Ryan is currently off of television to sell an attack by Josh Alexander, but he’s eager to return and looks forward to what’s next.
“Part of the pitch to me was the promise of doing stuff with my brother, so that’s very enticing. Where I worked before, I was trying to get [Nic] to work there for three years. So, finally for one of these things to match up and lock together like puzzle pieces, it’s very cool. Very cool for my family too. We brought my dad to a few of the live shows, and that’s been really fun also.”
