Joe Hendry Shares His ‘End Game’ For NXT Appearances

Joe Hendry wants to keep fans guessing where he’ll show up next.

WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard spoke with Hendry ahead of his world title match at TNA Slammiversary. Hendry continues to make waves on TNA and NXT TV, including his appearance on Tuesday night’s episode of NXT.

Hendry admits he’s having fun on social media by playing up on things, including angling for a potential match with John Cena. What’s his end game for the TNA/NXT collaboration?

What’s Joe Hendry’s goal?

“To do the absolute best that I can. It’s as simple as that. That’s one thing that I’ve learned from working with great people in the industry is that, ‘All you can do is do your absolute best. Control what you can control and do your absolute best.’ And that’s all I’m going to do. Any time I’m presented with an opportunity, I’m just going to give them the absolute best that I possibly can.”

Joe Hendry has noticed that having that attitude has led to great things. He pointed out his great chemistry with former NXT Champion Trick Williams as an example of that.

“We kinda wrestled and had some fun in the ring after the match. Then we shot a promo afterwards that I think the fans have really reacted well to,” Hendry said. “I don’t think there were any plans necessarily to have us like a duo. But I think people are quite enjoying the like an odd couple team of me and Trick Williams, and I actually enjoyed that too.

“I actually don’t know what direction, if any direction, things are going to go in,” Hendry pointed out. “I think the fans would like to see more. But I guess, you just have to keep tuning in to both TNA and NXT to see.”

Fans speculated Hendry might appear at WWE Clash At The Castle in Scotland because of the TNA/NXT relationship. Hendry played up on that by paying to put his face on billboards outside of the venue. He also looked into getting some “face time” on the new Sphere in Las Vegas, but how close did he actually get to making it happen?

“Basically it got to a point where, to hire the actual Sphere is… To actually [get ad space on it] yourself is like a six-figure sum. So it’s not something we are going to be able to do. But I was speaking to someone who claimed to be from an advertising firm who’s doing something with this Sphere and they were like, ‘Can we… We could include you for one rotation or blah blah blah…’ But when I asked that person to provide credentials to who they were, they went quiet.

“So, unfortunately, I don’t think [we’re moving forward with that person]. But if you know anything about me, when there’s a will, there’s a way. And I think there probably is a scenario where we can get me on this Sphere. Because I think that’ll be hilarious. But the billboards are a good start.”

TNA Slammiversary takes place on Saturday, July 20. On Tuesday, Hendry said he liked NXT and was “sticking around,” so fans will have to wait and see when (and where) he shows up next.
