Jetta Opens Up About Upcoming Retirement Match At Pro-Wrestling EVE, Why It’s Time

Jetta opens up about her impending retirement.

On June 7, the legendary in-ring careers of Jetta and Charlie Morgan – together called The Royal Aces – will come to an end. Before they officially hang up their wrestling boots, though, Jetta and Morgan will step into the ring one more time for an emotional tag team match.

This bout, taking place at Pro-Wrestling EVE‘s “Once More With Feeling” event, will pit Morgan, Jetta, and Erin Angel against EVE Champion Nina Samuels and the reuniting Medusa Complex (Charli Evans and Millie McKenzie).

Jetta, known to UK fans as “The Princess Diana of Pro Wrestling,” sat down with WrestleZone’s Ella Jay ahead of the event to discuss her retirement match, and the process of hand-selecting the Royal Aces’ opponents.

“Originally, it was like, okay, Royal Aces have never wrestled Medusa Complex. So we were like, ‘Okay, well, we need to do that match,'” Jetta recalled. “Then as we were sort of talking about it, I was like, can’t we have Erin [Angel] as well? I was saying to Charlie, ‘I really want Erin to be involved.’ Then we were like maybe Erin should be the ref, or maybe we could ask Erin to manage us. And I was like, ‘But Erin’s not had like a proper send off in EVE.’ And I don’t know what Erin’s plans are or what she wants to do in the future, but she’s not really wrestling …. But I was like, ‘Oh no, I think it’d be nice to tag with her [for this occasion].'”

While The Royal Aces have yet to wrestle Medusa Complex in tag team action, they are no strangers to Evans and McKenzie in singles competition. Likewise, Jetta shares a lengthy history with Erin Angel, as they became the inaugural EVE Tag Team Champions in 2019. Three months into their reign, however, Angel announced an indefinite hiatus from wrestling due to pregnancy.

Angel returned to action for a pair of matches in 2021 and 2022, respectively. Now, she will return once more for the send-off of her former tag team partner, Jetta.

The Third Opponent ‘Couldn’t Be Anyone Else’ But Nina Samuels

After locking in Evans and McKenzie as their first two opponents, Jetta and Morgan were then tasked with scouring the EVE locker room for their third, and final, adversary. Luckily, the Royal Aces came to a decision rather quickly.

“… [Nina Samuels] has been such a big part of Charlie’s career,” Jetta said. “Obviously, the coming out promo, she cashed in the briefcase to win the [EVE] title from Charlie. They’ve had lots of matches. I’m sure Charlie said it before, it’s probably no secret, but, originally when Charlie was going to come back [from her initial retirement] after the ankle [injury] and return after COVID, the match was supposed to be against Nina Samuels, but with the whole WWE thing, obviously that that couldn’t go on to the streaming service. So, that didn’t happen.”

“During lockdown and when we were preparing to come back, Nina would come up and stay with us,” Jetta continued. “We’d rent out a local ring and we’d go train with her because she was still wrestling all the time. She was a good person to get in the ring with and get the ring rust off. Also, I’ve wrestled Nina a lot. She’s also a really good friend of ours, which obviously plays into it as well. It couldn’t be anyone else.”

Why Was Now The Right Time To Retire?

Aside from being in-ring (and real-life) partners, Jetta and Charlie Morgan share another significant point of commonality, specifically in that both have previously experienced a period of retirement. As Jetta explains, though, this farewell feels more definite.

“I always said that I probably would only wrestle for a few more years, a couple of years ago,” Jetta said. “It’s fantastic that I’m technically not old, because there are a lot of people that are my age and still wrestling at my age, but I’m 37 this year. I just want to stop while I’m enjoying it. I think I’m really conscious of [knowing that] before, I wrestled until I hated it. And I don’t want to get to that point. I’m really enjoying it. I do love it, but I also sort of feel like it’s just time for me to step away. It’s not something that I’ve taken lightly, obviously. It’s a big thing to decide to do. It was always going to be this year. It was just where that lined up.”

“… Although it’s sad, everyone has to have a last match. you want it to be on your terms,” Jetta continued. “To be able to have my last match at a promotion that I hold really dearly, to be able to pick the people that are in the match, not a lot of people get that. You want to strike while the iron is hot, and while you can do that.”

Despite no longer being active competitors, Jetta is confident that the Royal Aces will remain involved in EVE in a non-wrestling capacity.

“We will always be around EVE,” Jetta declared. “We won’t be wrestling, but we will pop in, we will say hello. I’m sure you’ll hear us on commentary from time to time. We’re not going to completely disappear.”
