Lio Rush Treated WrestleMania Weekend Like An Audition For IMPACT Wrestling

Lio Rush is always looking toward the future.

WrestleZone recently spoke with Lio Rush about his arrival in IMPACT Wrestling. Rush made his debut at the promotion’s Multiverse United event in April, and later returned in a regular role in June. Rush immediately went for the X Division Championship, but he explained that the Multiverse event was always an opportunity to set himself up for the future.

“I treated it like an audition,” Rush stated. “Everything that I do, I treat equally as important as the next. You never know who’s watching. You never know who’s talking about you in a room, you never know who’s having a conversation behind your back. So, I always try to be ready. And I know that I’ve never done anything with IMPACT before. I knew that there was room and opportunity there to grow, so I took that opportunity and treated it as an audition to possibly get future opportunities with IMPACT.”

History Maker

Lio Rush is a former WWE Cruiserweight Champion and MLW World Middleweight Champion. He’s also the current X Division Champion, beating Chris Sabin for the title at Slammiversary. Rush said he saw the X Division as a challenge, adding that it was a “matter of time” before he won the championship.

“I have wrestled for damn near every wrestling promotion that there is to wrestle for and competed within their cruiserweight, lightweight divisions, junior heavyweight divisions. I feel like I’ve definitely made my rounds around the world multiple times, and I’ve accomplished things and in every promotion. And I feel like IMPACT, it was calling me,” Rush explained.

“I knew it was only a matter of time. This was that time. The X-Division Title is a title that [I’d] never held before and that intrigues me. That excites me. That motivates me because I want to make history. I want to do things that people have never done in this business before. It’s only been recently where I’ve started to really think about and understand and get a grasp of how much I’ve actually done in the business.”

Lio Rush is currently dealing with a shoulder injury but he is not expected to miss too much time. Rush is still scheduled to be part of IMPACT’s Multiverse United 2 event on August 20 where he and Trey Miguel will team up against Hiromu Takahashi and Mike Bailey.
