By now, you probably know that WWE veteran the Great Khali returned at Battleground. The larger-than-life superstar aided Jinder Mahal in defeating Randy Orton to retain his WWE Championship in what was only the third ever Punjabi Prison match. As Khali was the originator of this match, his return shouldn’t have really come as a surprise, but that’s exactly what it was.

After the character suffered from questionable storylines before his eventual release, seeing Khali return with his former monster status was a pleasant surprise. But now that he’s back in the WWE, just what lies ahead for the veteran superstar.

Bodyguard For Jinder Mahal

It seems like every great heel needs an entourage at some point in their career. The likes of Triple H, Seth Rollins, Shawn Michaels, The Miz and even the Undertaker have had backup during one of their runs as WWE’s top heel and Jinder Mahal is following in their footsteps.

At least for the foreseeable, Khali will likely remain by his side, in order to foil anyone who dares threaten the WWE Champion’s title reign. Much like Seth Rollins had the Authority’s backing in the form of Kane and J&J Security, Mahal will likely have the same kind of back-up in the form of The Great Khali and the Singh Brothers.

With possible opponents like Shinsuke Nakamura or Khali’s old rival John Cena awaiting Mahal at SummerSlam, you can bet that the Champion will be keeping Khali as close as possible.

A Rival For Jinder Mahal

As we’ve already established, Mahal continues to win matches thanks to assistance from his entourage. But while the Great Khali will likely join him for a period, we have to wonder if he will eventually turn on the WWE Champion. All alliances eventually break down – just ask Seth Rollins, who found himself face-to-face with the demonic alter-ego of Kane after their relationship imploded.

After all, Khali and Mahal have had their well-documented differences in the past, so there’s definitely a lot of story to work with. And it seems like a likely eventual conclusion to their partnership. The only question is: could Khali set out on his own and seek to reclaim the gold that was once his?

A Monster Run

When a monster shows up in WWE, a monster run is inevitable. From Kane to the Undertaker to Mark Henry, every monster gets multiple monster runs throughout their career. And the Great Khali’s initial monster run back in 2006 was the stuff that nightmares are made of. Who could forget how he manhandled the Undertaker and dominated the SmackDown roster?

But these monster pushes can also be incredibly useful to the younger superstars of WWE. When an unstoppable monster rises, one brave young WWE star is chosen to stop him once and for all. We’ve seen Kane do this many times before, allowing stars like Chris Jericho and Daniel Bryan to overcome him and make a name for themselves.

Now that Khali has returned, this is the perfect opportunity for him to run wild on the WWE roster one more time. We’re living in an era where WWE desperately need to build future stars, and there’s no better way for them to do that than by doing the impossible. If a veteran like Khali were to reclaim his former glory and destroy everything in sight, it would make us believe all the more in the man who finally stops him.

Is the WWE ready for another nightmarish Khali monster run? And would anyone be brave enough to stop him?

The Battle Of The Giants

While Khali may pick up where he left off on SmackDown, a different giant has been busy dominating RAW. And that giant is none other than the Monster Among Men – Braun Strowman. Since splitting from the Wyatt Family, Strowman has decimated everyone and everything that has ended up in his way. From Roman Reigns to Sami Zayn – no one was safe from the giant. In many ways, his monster push is similar to the run Khali had back when he debuted in 2006, which saw the 7ft monster destroy an abundance of SmackDown superstars as he tried to get the Undertaker’s attention.

When WWE have two giants on their roster, they never miss an opportunity to have them face-off. And this begs the question: could we see Braun Strowman come face-to-face with the returning Great Khali? The two men are monsters from different eras, and now that they will find themselves under the same roof on a few occasions, a run-in seems inevitable.

Moreover, let’s not forget about the legendary Big Show. He’s been with WWE for longer than both men and has collided with both of them on many occasions. Could he too end up in the equation and face-off with both of his former rivals.

Seeing two or three of these giants face-to-face would undoubtedly make for an unforgettable sight.

With the Great Khali back, it will be interesting to see how he slots back into the company that has changed so much in his absence. While I have no doubt that the company will find a spot for him, we have to wonder if he’ll remain by Jinder Mahal’s side for long or set out on his own to resume the destruction that he once loved so much.
