My latest column on upgruv.com and their free app looks at the success in how WWE brought back some edge this week in their programming and some flaws in the Enzo/Lana/Rusev logic. Here’s an excerpt:

For weeks now, Enzo and his tag-team buddy, Big Cass, have been at odds with Rusev while Enzo flirted with Lana. The latest chapter was entertaining, but lacked logic from a story standpoint.

  1. Lana lures Enzo to her hotel room.
  2. Simultaneously, Cass awaits the appearance of Rusev in the ring for their scheduled match.
  3. The audience sees all of this, and then witnesses Lana seducing Enzo in the hotel room.
  4. Caught with his pants down (literally), Enzo is attacked by Rusev — and the beating is delivered from wall to wall.

OK?

One problem: Enzo is the babyface, but a true good guy wouldn’t so easily be lured by a married woman. Nor would the good guy really wrestle with the decision whether to commit adultery. Also, good guys don’t run away, as Enzo tried to when Rusev appeared.

Just all seemed a bit backwards and odd.

To play devil’s advocate, though; this unorthodox behavior and flirtation with heel tendencies probably renders Enzo as the most believable babyface on RAW. His situation wasn’t implausible. He possesses over-the-top charisma and is constantly selling his “certified G and bona fide stud” credentials.
