The Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic
This week’s Isenberg Reacts on NXT is going to be more of an editorial and not a reaction piece where I break down every match and rate it. Instead, I am going to look at this Tag Team Classic and the positives and negatives it has given us so far.
We have had some really good matches to watch in the past few weeks, but it has hit a roadblock due to injuries. This week, Austin Aries was hurt so the tag team match ended up being Roderick Strong vs. Shane Thorne. Also, The Revival suffered an injury. This gave #DIY the forfeit win and advanced them in the tournament.
What we did get was The Authors of Pain in their first extended match (past 3 minutes) against Rich Swann and No Way Jose. We also were treated to Sanity vs. Kota Ibushi and TJ Perkins. While these two matches were good, it was not nearly enough to salvage the episode from being anything but a glorified transitional night. It advanced teams, but where was the intrigue? When you look at the unlucky injuries so far, I ask myself about how they are constantly booking 3-4 weeks in advance. Obviously it will be financially smart to knock a handful of episodes out, but do we really want NXT to be trapped in a corner of inconsistency? Don’t we get that enough from RAW and Smackdown Live?
So, What is this tournament for?
