The Top 5 Best Rock Movies

best rock movies

The Rock is one of the most popular pro wrestlers of all time, and one of the highest paid, most successful Hollywood megastars of all time. He’s done everything from comedy and action to drama and family films and continues to make in truck loads of money for everyone even remotely attached to him. In the list below, we run down the best Rock movies of all time.

The Top 5 Best Rock Movies

#5 – SAN ANDREAS

San Andreas is not a good movie. As far as apocalyptic world-ending catastrophes go, it’s not quite The Day After Tomorrow levels of cringe-worthy, but it’s not too much better. That being said, it’s actually a lot of fun watching The Rock doing ridiculous Rock stunts while the world explodes around him for an hour and a half. Taking it for what it is, his role in the film actually elevates it to something worth seeing.

#4 – CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE

I’m not going to sing Central Intelligence’s praises from the rooftops, but The Rock and Kevin Hart, no matter what you think of either as actors, have some awful on-screen chemistry. You can tell they have a lot of fun on set, and their friendship comes across in the movie in some great ways. Ignore the plot, ignore most of the writing; Rock and Hart own this movie and turn it into something decent.

#3 – THE RUNDOWN

This was The Rock’s first major role as the star of a feature film that didn’t involve scorpions or kings, and it’s still some of the best acting he’s ever done. He brought a great presence to the role, in some believable scenes that called for a true Hollywood badass. Plus, this was right at the peak of Dwayne breaking into the film business, not long after leaving pro wrestling. With a supporting cast that includes Rosario Dawson, Sean William Scott and Christopher Walken, this is probably the best pure “Rock movie”.

#2 – THE OTHER GUYS

The Rock and Sam Jackson are only in this incredible Will Farrell comedy for all of ten minutes (maybe), but their city chase and death-inducing plunge off a building was easily the best, most hilarious part of the entire film.

#1 – FURIOUS 7

The most recent entry in the Hollywood mega-popular Fast & Furious series, Furious 7, is also the most critically acclaimed of the bunch. The unexpected death of Paul Walker in the middle of production created a strong emotional line throughout the film and gave fans an amount of closure through the passing of his character. In the meantime, The Rock’s Luke Hobbs took the leap from side character to front-and-center, giving him a chance to put in some of his best work.

On a related note, Outside Interference weighed in on the five films The Rock should totally (NOT) remake. Do you agree?
