The Mind Games Continue
Randy Orton kicks off Smackdown Live talking about how manipulative Bray Wyatt is, how he never stops with the games and how he is beginning to go crazy. Bray tells Randy that he is going on a journey and it starts tonight. Luke Harper vs. Randy Orton kicks off the action in the ring. Orton connects with the superplex early on after staging off Harper’s attack Bray comes down to the ring inside of a casket with lights inside the casket. Luke Harper uses this distraction with an elbow drop and then slowing things down with a rear naked choke. Harper Gator Rolls Orton around the ring and keeps the pressure on his neck. Randy hits a few clotheslines and then a powerslam. Bray Wyatt attacks Orton from behind to cause the disqualification. Both men attack Randy and Bray opens the casket. Kane appears, which allows Orton to plant Bray with the IEDDT. Kane connects with a flying lariat to Harper. Randy Orton sets up for the RKO, but the lights go out and The Wyatt Family disappeared.
Another creative usage of The Wyatt Family. I like the casket involvement for Bray. I feel like each unique superstar needs his own gimmick match or idea. With no Undertaker, someone could easily use this as a prop to further elevate a feud. Bray is the right guy. Do I like the idea of Kane helping Randy? I do not love it, but am lukewarm about the idea. I still believe Kane needs to join The Wyatt Family. If you can’t beat them, join them. Kane could be revitalized and help The Wyatt Family reach a new level. Good opening all around and it gives us a potential month of more development between Randy and Bray.
Alexa Bliss Gets Revenge
Another week without Becky Lynch, but it gave strong opportunities for the other women on the roster. Naomi and Alexa did battle again, but this time the right woman came out on top. Alexa Bliss would hit Twisted Bliss after a series of reversals and tripping Naomi up on the ropes to pick up the win. I do enjoy seeing both of these women work.
In the long run, a more natural heel in Alexa will be successful, but I still really enjoy what Naomi is doing. She can recreate herself multiple times, but this gimmick with the lights is fun to see live and really gets the crowd behind her. Add that with her athleticism and speed and you can get a really strong face for the women’s division. Both women worked well together tonight, but the number one contender HAD to win to gain some confidence.
