Why The Uso’s?
American Alpha vs. The Uso’s for a chance to face Heath Slater and Rhyno at No Mercy took place on Smackdown Live. First off, I am a fan of the heel turn from Jimmy and Jey. It was much needed. I am not, however, a fan of how they are using American Alpha. The injury storyline bothers me, as it is not creative or original. Jason Jordan exploded on offense with suplexes of all sorts, but an attack on Gable’s leg led to a double superkick and then Jimmy flying high with a splash to pick up the win.
Okay, I get it. I get that Heath and Rhyno are faces and need to face heels early and often. They are still relatively new and need established teams that they can face who will get the round of boos. I just do not like how it comes to the expense of American Alpha. One week they are on Main Event and this week they lose to The Uso’s. Is this how you want the casual fan to be introduced to a new team? Have them in competitive tag team matches and WIN. Wins are all that matters to a casual fan and that is what Smackdown Live is missing when it comes to American Alpha.
Randy Orton vs. Erick Rowan
Rowan starts with a body slam and then tosses Orton to the outside. Randy Orton catches him with a hanging DDT and then wants to set him up for an RKO. He gets the crowd to their feet, sets it up and hits an RKO to pick up the win. Just like that, Orton beats Bray Wyatt’s disciple. After the match, the lights go out and Randy is in the ring by himself. He sees a sheep mask and Bray appears on the screen. He claps and then tells Randy he did well, but is still just a man. Wyatt continues the usual and tells Randy Orton to run as the segment ends.
Another week, but at least we got a match right? Yes, it was a two minute match but it was not all talking and it seemed as if they mixed up the lighting and production of how to see Bray Wyatt backstage. Again, more action and less talking can really get me MORE behind this feud. They cannot rely on the same story each time with Bray Wyatt.
