John Cena vs. Alberto Del Rio
A rematch of a recent feud, as Alberto Del Rio and John Cena do battle. Del Rio hit some knees and Cena powers out. Styles is on commentary. Del Rio misses a baseball slide to the outside and he throws him back into the ring. Del Rio hits a German Suplex for a two count. Del Rio hits a few kicks and then we head to a commercial break.
John Cena hits his shoulder blocks and then a side suplex. He tries to hit Five Knuckle Shuffle, connects and then tries his AA. Backstabber from Del Rio gives him only a two count. John Cena heads up to the top, but Del Rio hits a kick to knock him down. An STF turns into a superkick. Del Rio gets another two count and gets frustrated. Alberto Del Rio locks in the armbar, but Cena hits a back drop. He hits an Attitude Adjustment and picks up the win. AJ Styles hits a flying elbow and then grabs a microphone. He says that he is sick and tired of hearing that the future goes through John Cena. He comes back into the ring and Cena hits an AA. He strips the table and then hits an AA through the table.
An excellent main event ends a really good and developed show. ADR and John Cena work so well together, a smooth flow and an impressive transitional skill set that features plenty of reversals that do not look forced. The end of the night needed to be John Cena’s. AJ Styles has been the guy with the upper hand, so it made sense to get the face over tonight. I do think WWE knows that AJ Styles should win on Sunday. The feud has been great, but Styles should be world champion on that show. Cena can move onto someone else before potentially getting another run as the champion.
