Cesaro vs. Alberto Del Rio
Two technicians in the ring do battle on Smackdown, with both men in opposite career paths. A great match, sound submission holds and Cesaro coming away as the victor tells you so much about how WWE views both men. Alberto Del Rio returned and became United States Champion. He would lose it to Kalisto a few times and now is stuck in limbo. I find it crazy that Alberto Del Rio is in the best shape of his life and doing great things in the ring, only to be booked mediocre. What does he need to get back to a main event level? Does anyone have Ricardo Rodriguez’s number? Oh wait, I do.
Cesaro continues to push the new gimmick. Man, how many suites and shirts is this guy going to destroy? I love the physicality and strength he possesses, from gutwrench suplexes and uppercuts galore, Cesaro has a balanced attack that is desirable to succeed. It will always be about mic skills from these two guys, whether they continue to climb up the roster or stay stagnant. Either way, a great contest and the right call with Cesaro NEEDING wins.
Sheamus vs. Apollo Crews
The Celtic Warrior looked upset and when the bell rang, he unloaded punches and forearms to the young star. Crews would battle back on Sheamus by hitting a flying elbow and a standing moonsault. Sheamus was able to send Crews to the outside and get him counted out, which was a smart booking decision.
You do not want Sheamus to lose over and over again, especially since he is one of their more underrated workers. He can get over young talent without having to suffer constant failures. With Apollo, he loses by count-out, which means this feud will continue. I am okay with this continuing because it has a backstory now. They need to give these guys more than 4-6 minutes of ring work to make their story connect with the crowd. Again, we have not gotten a vocal connection from Crews, so showcase his agility and speed in the ring.
