A Scathing Promo Between Styles and Cena
John Cena talks about how the crowd chanted “AJ Styles” and “Let’s Go Cena” for close to three minutes last week in Green Bay. He then questions why AJ Styles did what he did, and out comes the man himself to explain his actions. Styles and Cena exchange words, with Styles talking about how John Cena buries talent. He says his boys backing him are insurance and will help him keep his head above ground. John Cena then talks about what he has done and that AJ Styles hasn’t proven anything yet in the WWE.
He talks about how he lost his opportunity at becoming champion. Styles says that John Cena is jealous that he will never be better than him in the ring and how he sells out shows in Japan. Cena fires back and then The Club make their way to the ring. The New Day run out and they stop this from happening. It sets up a 6 man tag team match for later tonight.
The Club defeated The New Day
The action really picks up, without an official start, when Xavier Woods sends AJ to the floor and kicks him away. Karl Anderson drops Woods with a big boot and Styles hits a Styles Clash on the floor to Woods. We go to commercial with the match not officially started. We see Woods taken to the back, so it is now a 3-on-2 match. Kofi goes at it with Anderson until Big E aids him in the beating of Karl. Big E with a belly to belly suplex on Anderson as Gallows and Styles look on. As the referee gets distracted, The Club hits Big E with some vicious kicks and boots. Gallows ends up in control of Big E in the ring. He applies a headlock to slow the pace of the match.
Kofi gets the hot tag and hits clotheslines and punches to Styles, followed by the Boom Drop. Kofi hits Anderson with a DDT and then Styles and Kofi trade holds. Kofi misses a crossbody, but the Styles Clash is reversed. Kofi with the SOS for a 2 count, thanks to Karl Anderson breaking it up. Big E takes out Anderson to the outside and Luke Gallows clears the ring of Big E. Kofi hits a Trouble in Paradise, but AJ is right there to hit the Phenomenal Forearm to picl up the win for his club. After the match, John Cena makes the save and hits an AA on Anderson as Raw goes off the air.
These parts of Raw were the two great parts of a three hour average show. They did not need Rollins and Reigns, especially since those videos were produced to perfection. The promo from John Cena and AJ Styles balanced between fiction and reality, crossed lines when it needed to and ultimately made it feel like these two men are so equal in every facet. Whether you like it or not, AJ Styles is SO MUCH BETTER as a heel. He seems more natural and his heel tactics are ultimately going to keep him from being booed. Good or bad, both men delivered and their “friends” delivered as well in a good main event. Even though tag team matches with little meaning need to stop main eventing every single Raw, this one was still fun to watch and had the John Cena save at the end. Predictable, but logical.
