If I’m McMahon, I’m not happy that Rusev and Lana made their engagement public. I bet he’s not: Witness Ryback pinning Rusev in three minutes.
Rusev and Lana should have kept their engagement to themselves until storylines were altered. Indefinitely, if need be. You need to be credible in your role. That’s your job. Rusev and Lana didn’t keep that part of the bargain.
Go ahead, get engaged. Tell everybody. That’s your right.
But your boss doesn’t have to like it, and can respond accordingly. That’s his right.
Despite the overwhelming lure of Twitter, you don’t have to tell the world about everything you do. Members of boy bands hide their girlfriends (or boyfriends). They’re supposed to be available. It’s part of the job.
Rusev and Lana used to be so over. Rather, Lana was. First because of her looks, then because Rusev’s abuse made her a sympathetic figure. WWE milked the storyline, but romantic angles mostly fizzle out. Once Lana turned babyface, there was nothing to do with her. She couldn’t fight Rusev. Babyface managers and valets generally don’t work. The split was the end.
Putting Rusev and Lana back together seems stale. I’d bet on both being future endeavored before I’d bet on them getting back to their previous level.
