Kevin Owens Becomes Champion
WWE Night of Champions featured a pretty accelerated feud, as Kevin Owens took on Ryback less than two weeks from starting the feud. Owens and Ryback exchanged some big blows early, with Ryback getting a few spinebusters and clotheslines in. The big guy was in control, working a much more physical and stiff match, but KO would come back hard.
Owens would ultimately get put into a Shell Shock, but rake the eyes of the champion and pick up the heel-ish win to capture his first major championship in WWE.
The match was physical and what I expected, even though it should have went on longer. Owens wins with a heel tactic, even though he was the face in front of the Houston crowd. I am very excited to see how the Intercontinental Championship feuds will develop now with a guy so unique and extremely good at everything OUTSIDE of the ring. There is more potential for deep and compelling storylines now.
Would you rather have seen Owens win the United States Championship against John Cena a few months back? I feel like that would have had more of an impact and a bigger moment than tonight. But, keep in mind that WWE now has a title that has not been extremely relevant on a guy who EVERYONE wants to see succeed.
@JoshIsenberg4 I love it! I think he can bring the prestige back to the IC strap
