“You Say You Want a Revolution”, Assessing the WWE Divas Revolution

wwe smackdownThis “revolution” needs to turn a corner soon, before it drives off a cliff.

WWE absurdly seems determined to allow Mrs. John Cena to become longest-reigning WWE Divas champ specifically to strip that honor from Mrs. C.M. Punk. That’s petty. Tom Petty. Childish agendas shouldn’t decelerate a “revolution.”

Why are they still called Divas?

If the “revolution” doesn’t take root ASAP, Eva Marie will soon ruin everything.

Eva Marie is the antithesis of what WWE thinks it’s trying to do with its women, but also the embodiment of WWE’s long-time preference when it comes to female performers. Eva Marie will lead WWE’s women’s division back to the future.

My first instinct looks more correct than ever: Charlotte, Sasha Banks and Lynch should have squashed the incumbent WWE Divas, then feuded among themselves. Bayley and Natalya could have joined that mix. The Bellas, Paige, etc., just aren’t good enough to be a big part of this. Not if it’s going to be special.

SummerSlam is getting lots of mainstream PR. Social media has fooled the legit media. Wrestling is at low ebb but, hey, LOOK AT THOSE TWITTER NUMBERS! Jon Stewart is SummerSlam’s host, Brock Lesnar was on ESPN, Jonathan Coachman will do SummerSlam updates on SportsCenter, and an actor who played murder suspect Joran van der Sloot and a male prostitute is going to ruin one of the matches.

Debate rages over who wins between Brock Lesnar and Undertaker. But who wins has never mattered less to WWE’s growth or shrinkage. Most of those left watching are kids, lifers or obsessed loons who will watch no matter what.
