A British Point of View: Bray WHYat

bray wyattI understand there is a big buzz about Bray Wyatt but I have to be honest at this stage and say that my enthusiasm for his character has whimpered to say the least.

When Bray made his WWE debut, he had his ‘family’, he was mysterious, he kept referring to his dark past and his lost Sister Abigail. Basically in a nutshell, he was totally different to anyone else on the roster.

He was very comfortable on the microphone and he forced you to listen to his riddles and rambles, trying to understand his tales of pain. He quickly went into a feud chasing down John Cena and called him a fraud. He promised that he would expose him for what he is. Then he lost at WrestleMania 30 against Mr. Hustle, Loyalty and Respect and nothing ever was the same for him.

From this point onwards, Bray has continued to speak in strange riddles which don’t connect with the audience and I fear that most people just don’t care anymore. It was different at the beginning because we felt that there was a purpose to it all. We felt that Bray was going to show a side of John Cena that we had hoped for. We hoped it was the beginning of change, but it wasn’t.

We hoped that Bray’s promos had meaning, but he has gone through so many feuds where he hasn’t backed up what he has preached. Ordinarily, that wouldn’t be a problem for a heel, but Bray was supposed to be different; he was supposed to be this generation’s Undertaker.

Bray even faced the dead man at WrestleMania 31 which was a bit of a no win situation; people didn’t want to see Undertaker lose again and Bray needed the win for credibility. Ultimately in the aftermath, Bray acted like he had won the match and called himself the new face of fear even though he was unsuccessful. Again, this didn’t sit well with people because he didn’t deliver on his promises.

He had worthless feuds with Dean Ambrose and Ryback and now he has targeted Roman Reigns. This rivalry seems to be focussed on Roman Reigns being a father, again something that Bray has done before when he started to “dig up” Dean Ambrose’s past in their rivalry. I don’t see this feud being any different and don’t expect Wyatt to come out on top.
