A British Point of View: It’s Bad to be the King

bad-news-barrettIf your name is Wade Barrett then being King is definitely not all its cracking up to be. The past few months has proven to be a difficult for one ‘King’ Barrett.

Wade Barrett has had his fair share of speed bumps in his career. He was the leader of the Nexus and looked strong, only for it to run out of steam after feuding with John Cena. Then came the shortly lived faction of ‘The Corre’; which the less said, the better.  He also had some work visa issues which prevented him making a WWE appearance for a sustained amount of time and he also went through some nasty injuries including a badly separated shoulder just before he was scheduled to compete in the Money in the Bank ladder match. A match no less, that fans were placing Barrett as favourite to win.

Wade then made his return from injury looking the best he has ever looked. He lost over 30lbs and kept himself looking very lean. He quickly regained the Intercontinental Champion and was heading the right way going in to WrestleMania 31. Then things took a bad turn again. The game of hot potato began with his title as WWE Superstars were stealing his Championship going into the Ladder Match. Things didn’t get much better for Barrett as he lost the Championship to Daniel Bryan who in the end wasn’t able to defend it.

Things appeared to improve. A special WWE Network event resurrected the King of the Ring tournament and Wade Barrett was crowned the King. Ever since this point I think I can only remember him winning one match, and even that was on a SmackDown that nobody probably watched. He has lost to Neville on numerous occasions, he was the first eliminated in the Elimination Chamber by R-Truth and has gone on to lose to him again on the Money in the Bank pre-show.

I by no means think that WWE have a problem with Wade Barrett as they are always looking to do things with his character. Unfortunately they seem to come up with an idea and from that point on he always seems to be booked to enhance others. I get the impression that WWE feel that Wade Barrett is a safe choice and someone they may also take for granted.

Wade deserves better than this.
