Kevin Owens vs. Cesaro
A dream for all internet fans.
Cesaro gets on the offensive early, hitting Owens a few times and tackling him on the floor. Cesaro hits an uppercut and sends him into the ring.
Kevin Owens blocks a suplex on the apron and hits a few forearms, but Cesaro fires back with a clothesline. Back from break and Cesaro is in control. Owens comes back with some strikes and a cannonball in the corner. Cesaro knocks him off the ropes and tries to hit a big slam. Kevin Owens counters and hits his pop-up powerbomb for the win.
Smooth execution. Both men easily put on the best match of the night. Cesaro is the perfect guy to fight Owens on an “off week.” Their strength and unique offensive styles make for this to be a really fun match to watch. Thankfully, Cesaro did not get completely squashed and even took control offensively more than I imagined. Another successful night for KO.
Sheamus and Kane defeated Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose
The main event was what you expect in terms of wrestling and in-ring ability. Kane puts himself in this tag match earlier in the night and the two former Shield members do battle.
The match made Sheamus look really good, especially since he came off a loss against Dean Ambrose on Raw. Do not be surprised if Sheamus is booked weak over the next few months. As a heel with a chance to be champion at any time, he does not necessarily need to mow through opponents. Would I like to see that? Absolutely, but it is not going to happen.
The end of the match had Bray Wyatt appear and sing “I’m a little teapot” to Roman Reigns on the titantron. Distracting Reigns, Sheamus hits his Brogue Kick for the win.
I really enjoyed the ending of the match. It brought Reigns vs. Wyatt to the forefront of our minds, giving us that creepy and uncomfortable feeling that we normally do. This is why Bray is so good. He sends chills down your spine when he gets personal. His look is intense and the emotion he can bring out of someone is uncanny.
I think we will see Sheamus vs. Ambrose added as well. Either way, Battleground is shaping into a very nice card and they still have 4 weeks to produce more depth and more details in some of their more important feuds.
