But how do you introduce them?
You hear rumors about NXT invading WWE. But, from the female perspective, that only works if the NXT women squash the Divas, and the Divas stop performing in-ring. Eye candy, reality series, OK, do that stuff.
But you can’t mix the NXT women and the Divas. The Divas will undermine the performances of the NXT women, and fans don’t un-see mediocrity. Heck, Natalya’s very experienced, and the Divas drag her down. The NXT women need to overwhelm the Divas via 30-second squashes. Squash and eliminate.
The “new” WWE women’s division needs to be Bayley, Becky Lynch, Charlotte, Natalya, Sasha Banks and whoever else proves she can cut the mustard. All five are good-looking, decent talkers, lots of personality and they can GO. Keeping that quintet separate could lead to a women’s match main-eventing a PPV.
If that’s what McMahon wants. I’m not sure he does. Triple H and Steph, yes. Vince, not so much.
To reiterate and stress: You can’t mix the NXT women and the current Divas. It’s two different forms of fake wrestling.
Ric Flair could elevate a broomstick to a great match. But what if Ashley Flair can’t? You’re back to square one. WWE programming would not miss the current Divas one bit. Nobody cares about them. The crowd goes nuts for Lana. But, beyond that, what positive is she directly responsible for?
It’s heartless. But it’s about moving forward. The WWE must ditch the Divas if they want the women’s division to truly move forward. When the NXT women and Natalya are working among themselves, it will be magic.
This ain’t the bra-and-panties match generation. It’s the start of something big.
If Vince allows it.
